Serene Lake
Serene Lake is a large lake of 3.5 km (around the lake) at the south of the airport. It’s a great place to watch the sunset, run, or have a coffee. There are also ruins of a temple in the middle of the water. Entering is guarded by guards, but it is free. If they stop you, just say that you are going to do sports or go to the café. Doi Thon View Point
Doi Thon View Point is 45 minutes from Chiang Mai and can be accessed by motorcycle, 4×4, or by hiking. The road to get there is not easy; you will need a good motorcycle. At the top, you can enjoy a clear view of the mountains and Chiang Mai on the horizon. It is a place of worship, and there are also many dogs at the top, but they are not aggressive. Choeng Doi Suthep Wildlife Conservation Development and Extension
Choeng Doi Suthep Wildlife is a good place for nature and animal lovers. It’s a little known and infrequent place, yet very close to CMU, just behind Wat Umong. You can observe a lot of animals, some are in cages, but the vast majority are totally free. There is also a hike inside. Entrance is free, you just have to write your name and sign. Tweechol Botanical Garden is a park at 25 minutes in the northeast of Chiang Mai. It is a very large botanical garden, can attend, but very beautiful.
